1. About Our Service
RAF Companion is a digital platform that helps South African road accident victims understand their potential Road Accident Fund (RAF) claims. Our services include:
- Free claim strength assessment
- Personalised document guidance
- Connection with verified attorneys (optional)
2. Eligibility
To use RAF Companion, you must:
- Be at least 18 years of age (or have parental/guardian consent)
- Provide accurate and truthful information
- Have been involved in a road accident in South Africa (for claim assessment)
3. No Legal Advice
The assessments, scores, estimated values, and guidance provided by RAF Companion are for informational purposes only. They do not constitute legal advice, and should not be relied upon as a substitute for professional legal consultation. Actual claim outcomes may differ significantly from our estimates.
4. Attorney Matching
When you opt in to attorney matching:
- Your anonymised claim information is shared with verified attorneys in our marketplace
- Attorneys may submit bids/proposals for your case
- You choose which attorney (if any) to work with
- Any agreement between you and an attorney is a separate legal relationship
- RAF Companion is not a party to any attorney-client agreement
5. For Attorneys
Attorneys using our platform agree to:
- Maintain valid LPC registration throughout their use of the platform
- Provide accurate firm and credential information
- Honour the fee structures submitted in their bids
- Comply with all applicable professional conduct rules
- Not contact claimants outside the platform before being selected
6. Account Responsibilities
- You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials
- You must notify us immediately of any unauthorised access
- You may not create multiple accounts
- We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms
7. Accuracy of Information
You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information. Providing false or misleading information may result in account termination and could affect the outcome of any claim or legal proceedings.
8. Intellectual Property
All content, design, code, and branding on RAF Companion are owned by us and protected by copyright. You may not copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works from our platform without written permission.
9. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by South African law:
- RAF Companion is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind
- We are not liable for any decisions made based on our assessments
- We are not liable for any actions or omissions of attorneys on our platform
- Our total liability is limited to the amount paid by you (if any) for using the service
10. The Road Accident Fund
The Road Accident Fund (RAF) is an independent government institution. RAF Companion is an independent private platform and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the RAF.
11. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Any disputes shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the South African courts.
12. Changes to Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Continued use of the platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
